What Is TARA? One App, Two Accounts, You Decide

TARA explained: a self-custody Vault with no seed phrase, plus a Smart Account with a Visa card with rewards on your USD balance. One app, two accounts. Money on your side.

What Is TARA? One App, Two Accounts, You Decide

Crypto has always forced a choice. Sovereignty or convenience.

Hold your own keys and accept the complexity that comes with them, or hand everything to an exchange or neobank and hope that it will still be there tomorrow.

Companies quietly pick one side and pretend the other doesn't exist.

We built TARA on a different idea: you should have both, and you should always know which one you're using.

TARA is one app with two accounts inside.

The Vault is a self-custody crypto wallet only you control. The Smart Account is a spending account with a card, managed by regulated companies. You get both when you sign up, and you decide what lives where.

The Vault: your keys, no seed phrase

The Vault is non-custodial, TARA cannot access, move, or freeze what's in it. Any action on your assets starts with you. There is no company standing between you and your crypto.

Most self-custody wallets hand you a seed phrase: twelve or twenty-four words that are the master key to everything you own, usually scribbled on paper and hidden somewhere you'll worry about forever.

What's worse, they have you back up this seed phrase on public clouds defeating the purpose in the first place.

The Vault doesn't.

It uses MPC, short for multi-party computation, a key-management technology that splits signing across multiple places so no single point of failure exists. Nothing to write down, nothing to photograph, and nothing to lose.

The Vault works across the most popular blockchain networks. Hold Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, stablecoins, whatever you believe in, and hold it on your own terms.

The Smart Account: money for everyday life

The Smart Account plays by different rules, on purpose.

It's custodial: regulated companies manage it, and setting it up requires identity verification (KYC, the standard check any fintech account runs). In exchange, you get everything custody makes possible.

Your assets are held in institutional custody, not some on-chain vault. Your dollar balances accrue rewards in eligible jurisdictions, you can send and receive fiat just like a regular bank account, all powered by our partner institutions.

And you can spend it.

The Tara Visa Signature Card works with Apple Pay and Google Pay anywhere Visa is accepted, online and in store. Your stablecoins become coffee, groceries, and plane tickets with a tap.

And your swaps?

Forget market orders, slippage, and uncertainty. Every order has a guaranteed execution price.

The boundary between them is the whole point

Plenty of apps blur the line between "your money" and "money a company holds for you."

That blur is where people get hurt. When an exchange or neobank collapses, the painful discovery is that customers thought they held their crypto when the company did.

We built TARA so you always know which side of the line you're on

The Vault and the Smart Account are visibly separate, with different rules, and the app always tells you which one you're in. Moving between them takes a few taps, and it's always you who starts the move.

Want to hold Bitcoin long-term, untouchable? Vault

Want to grab coffee this morning? Smart Account

Want to shift between the two? You decide, whenever you like.

Who TARA is for

Maybe you hold real conviction in crypto and refuse to give up your keys, but you still need to pay rent.

Maybe you're a freelancer paid in stablecoins by a client three time zones away.

Maybe you live somewhere where your local currency loses value every month and you've already moved your savings to dollars.

Or maybe you're tired of money apps that take a hidden percentage of everything you do.

You don't have to fit one of these perfectly. Most people fit pieces of all of them.

We built TARA  for the overlap.

What TARA is not

TARA is not a bank. Custodial services, card issuance, and settlement are provided by regulated companies under their own terms.

There is no official TARA token. We didn't raise venture capital, and our business model is deliberately simple: fair fees on the free account and, later this year, a membership for people who want more. Think Costco, not a casino.

We make money when the product is worth paying for. That's the whole trick.

Try it

TARA is opening in friends and family mode, with public access to follow. If you want both of your accounts in one app, join the waitlist at tara.com and we'll let you know when your spot opens up.

Hold what you own. Spend what you need. Decide where everything lives.

That’s what TARA is all about.

Money on your side.
